Mike has more than 20 years’ experience of personal consulting

(Coaching and counselling people to overcome the challenges in their professional and personal life)

Coaching in a business context to improve the performance of a client taking up a new or changing role and, in some cases, how to lead their people through change.

Counselling in a social and community setting to help a client deal with personal, emotional problems that disable them and cause them to feel that they can’t cope with life.

Sometimes coaching leads into counselling and counselling can lead to coaching.

Some academic qualifications and experience:

  • BSc, MPhil, Lecturer at London University and Senior Visiting Lecturer at Plymouth Universities in their Futures, Business, and International Business departments.

  • Diploma in Counselling with the Association of Learning + TQUK

  • Coaching certification in personal coaching with The Coaching Academy

  • MTBI certification by Consulting Psychologists – Palo Alto CA

Experience as a coaches coach

Mike has also created, developed, and manged two groups of 100+ performance improvement coaches – one in the public sector the other in the private sector.

In addition, he has designed and delivered many “creating a coaching culture” programmes to public, private, and social enterprise organisations - creating networks of coaches within that organisation. 


Mike has designed and delivered “Developing Yourself and Others” modules (with coaching at their core) as part of live, work-based Post Graduate programmes for Plymouth Graduate School, including:

  • PG Diploma in Organisational Leadership (with the NHS Leadership Academy)

  • PG Certificate in Leading Social Enterprise to provide innovative health and social care

  • PG Certificate in Leading Service Change (with Plymouth City Council)

  • Created and delivered Coaching Across Cultures 2-day workshop as part of the MSc in HR

  • Developing innovation and systems leadership within Plymouth GP Practices

  • Creating and implementing a customer focused, integrated service for THE BOX.
